Sun Microsystems has announced that John Fowler has been appointed Executive Vice President of Sun’s new group, Network Systems. This is a group designed to strengthen Sun’s position in the market for the industry standard network computing infrastructure.

 
John Fowler, aged 43, has been with Sun Microsystems for more than 14 years with experience in software development, corporate strategy and most recently as the Chief Technology Officer for Sun Microsystems’ Software organization. In his previous roles, Fowler was responsible for identifying leading trends in hardware and software, and leading Sun ‘s software investment strategies. He was actively involved in nearly all acquisitions that currently comprise the Network Systems team. Previously, he has led large engineering organizations in delivering core elements of network computing innovation, from desktops to servers, to the growing peer to peer movement and the evolution of network gaming.

The new Network Systems product line aims to leverage industry standard components, supply chains, and Sun’s research and development to deliver the best price/performance, technically advanced solutions to customers leveraging the x86 instruction set.
