1815 — Ericsson and Sun Microsystems collaborate on advanced multitasking Java Technology solution for 3G handsets

Ericsson and Sun are extending their business relationship to develop an integrated, multitasking Java technology-based solution.
 

The implementation is based on Sun’s Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC) HotSpot Implementation and is integrated and optimized with a full Java technology stack on platforms from Ericsson Mobile Platforms.

‘The results of the extended collaboration between Sun and Ericsson is an important step in the evolution of Java technology and can greatly accelerate the pace of innovation and uptake of new advanced applications in coming mobile phones, both for the consumer and the business segment. For example, a Java-technology-based push-mail application could now easily be enabled to run concurrently with other applications, commented Jörgen Lantto,Vice President, Strategic Product Management, Ericsson Mobile Platforms.
