Eckoh Technologies believes an exclusive contract with ITV has made it the number one firm in the country for the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) and Speech Solutions markets. The Herts-based speech recognition specialist has signed a minimum one year contract with ITV, worth “several millions” of pounds, to be the exclusive provider of interactve telephony services for the UK commercial television network.

The contract includes ITV flagship shows such as I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, This Morning, CITV, Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway and Trisha and will build on more traditional telephony services like votes, competitions, polls and audience data capture. The interactive telephony service will also provide new technologies such as speech recognition, giving ITV and Eckoh the opportunity to enhance new programming concepts still in development.

Eckoh’s revenue will come from a split of the money charged to viewers who call a programme participating in the ‘telephony service’. Eckoh IVR services are aimed principally at media owners, providing Web, SMS and iTV services alongside the core telephony proposition.

Eckoh signed a deal with BT in January 2003 for two years to provide hosted speech recognition solutions to BT’s corporate client base. Its value to both was proven when they recently extended the contract to December 2006. A direct result from this alliance was a contract with TD Waterhouse, a speech recognition stock quotation service. The caller simply says the name of the company they are interested in and is told the price over the phone.
