Brasil Telecom has awarded Tecnomen a value-added service contract to deliver and install a complete messaging solution and prepaid system. Tecnomen will provide Brasil Telecom with prepaid and voice mail systems for its current fixed-line operations, and voice mail and prepaid systems, a Multimedia Messaging Service Centre (MMSC) and WAP gateway for its new mobile operation. The deal is worth approximately USD 4.7 million.

Brasil Telecom, one of the largest telecommunications companies in Brazil, was one of three fixed-line operators formed when the industry was deregulated in 1999. Through its nine operating subsidiaries, Brasil Telecom operates in nine different states throughout central and southern Brazil, serving 34 per cent of the country, including the capital.

With the help of Tecnomen Prepaid platform, Brasil Telecom can selectively group and target the features provided by the platform to meet the needs of their specific market segments. Tecnomen Prepaid does not impose any restrictions on SIM card or handset type. It simultaneously supports different protocols including TDMA, GSM and CDMA. It supports SMS charging and roaming, allowing subscribers to benefit from a prepaid service while travelling abroad.
