Michel Mayer has been named chairman and chief executive officer of Motorola subsidiary, Freescale Semiconductor. Motorola believes to have recognised in him a unique combination of operational experience, leadership skills, customer focus and technical expertise.
Mayer, a native of France, has worked the last 20 years at IBM Corporation. In recent years, as General Manager of IBM Microelectronics, an unit which develops and markets customized semiconductor products and services.
Mayer has a degree of ingenieur in electrical engineering and computer science from the Ecole Superieuré dElectricité in Paris.
Later this year Freescale Semiconductor it is expected to become a separate, publicly traded company.
