The provider of telecommunications products and services in the South West of England and Wales, Surf Telecoms, has announced a £2.13 (US$3.85) million investment in its network serving the region.

Steve Blew, Sales & Marketing Director for Surf Telecoms, commented that, “Steady growth in bandwidth demand from consumers and business plus the fact that the South West is a major conduit for data between the U.S. and the UK means that we need the best possible technology and services to support regional customers as we move forward

On a release note, Nortel Networks explains that the work will start immediately on its Optical Broadband Service-enabling infrastructure with the aim of boosting capacity and providing carriers, mobile operators, systems integrators and large corporate and public sector customers with competitively priced, scalable bandwidth. The new network is set for completion in October and will link up with Surf’s existing infrastructure in South Wales. Nortel Networks says its next generation optical equipment will boost existing bandwidth, providing a reliable and sturdy network to accommodate further increases in demand.
