Andreas Bernhardt will join the Group Executive Management of the Communications Group of Siemens AG effective October 1, 2005. Bernhardt was previously CEO of Alcatel SEL AG in Germany.

Bernhardt, who holds a Diplom-Ingenieur degree with a specialty in communications technology, has had years of experience in the field of telecommunications – particularly in developing new business fields – and has an excellent network throughout the industry. “The new management team will ensure that the new strategic direction at Communications will be pursued with intensity and focus,” said Thomas Ganswindt, member of the Corporate Executive Committee of Siemens AG and responsible for the Information and Communications (I&C) business area.

Following his studies in communications technology, Bernhardt began his career in 1983 at Alcatel SEL as an engineer in the company’s research and development department. After heading a research and development project for high-speed transmission systems, he switched to product development for optical avionics systems. In 1995, Bernhardt was named assistant to the company’s management. Following various other management and executive functions, he was appointed CEO of Alcatel SEL AG in Germany in 2000. Among his other activities, Bernhardt serves on the Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations in the Federation of German Industries (BDI), on the Economic Council of the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, and on the Board of Trustees of the Founders’ Association for German Industry (Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wirtschaft).
