Lucent Technologies and Juniper Networks, Inc. announced that Lucent has upgraded Mexican service provider MCM Telecom’s Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) backbone network in Mexico City with Juniper Networks M-series Multiservice Edge routers, enhancing the security and maximizing the performance of the network.

MCM Telecom owns and operates Mexico’s largest metropolitan fiber optic networks in Mexico City, Monterrey, and Guadalajara and offers a complete range of voice and data services to businesses. Services include IP-based voice solutions, business-focused high capacity data services, and point-to-point and point-to-multipoint optical network transport.

“As a premier provider of telecommunications services to businesses in Mexico, our customers expect that our services will operate securely and reliably,” said Mark Hilton, Chief Operating Officer, MCM Telecom. “We were seeking a solution that would expand and enhance our advanced service offerings while meeting and exceeding the level of reliability and security our customers demand, and the solution supplied by Lucent and Juniper has addressed this need perfectly

Juniper Networks M-series routers support MCM’s complete range of services—including enterprise voice over Internet Protocol, virtual private networks and data hosting services—with industry leading levels of performance and reliability. Using unique J-Protect filtering capabilities, the M-series also protects the network from distributed denial-of-service attacks and other security threats.

“We appreciate the opportunity to help MCM improve the quality and range of services it is able to offer to its customers,” said Gabriel Herbel, Sales Director from Lucent Technologies in Mexico. “This is another good example of how Lucent and Juniper are collaborating to address key challenges for our customers

Working with Lucent, MCM has deployed Juniper Networks M10i and M7i Multiservice Edge Routers. Juniper Networks M10i and M7i multiservice edge routers utilize a high-performance architecture and JUNOS, a proven carrier-class operating system. This ensures industry-leading reliability with uncompromising forwarding performance to support latency-sensitive applications such as voice, video, and mission-critical applications.

“MCM is an innovative service provider offering a range of advanced network services, and when they required a network infrastructure upgrade, our M-series delivered the reliability and performance they needed,” said Tim Lambie, vice-president, Americas International of Juniper Networks. “We’re pleased to work with Lucent to deliver secure and assured networking solutions to support advanced multiservice networks
