According to a Datamonitor report, by 2005 the number of call centres in UK is expected to grow to 8,000, up from 6,000 in 2002, employing 640,000 personnel, a 28% increase over last years figures.
The same report also reveals that 90% of call centre staff are employed in customer service functions in large organisations such as banks and utilities.
The remaining 10% work in specialist outsourced call centres. The outsourced market in UK is estimated to be worth 2.1 billion euros, twice the figure 6 years ago, with a yearly growth of about 15%.
