Mobile Telecommunications Company (MTC), the leading GSM network operator in Kuwait, has awarded Tecnomen a contract worth over one million euros to upgrade its messaging system. Tecnomen, the Finnish unified messaging provider, will deliver and install the latest version of its eZONER messaging platform in the first quarter of 2003.

Replacing MTC‘s existing Tecnomen messaging platforms, eZONER provides additional messaging features such as unified messaging, wireless email, voice mail expansion and an integrated Short Message Service Centre (SMSC). It also features an email reader to allow subscribers to listen to their emails; voice control to enable subscribers to manage their messages using voice commands; and Tecnomen Greetings Centre which supports subscribers in managing and personalising multiple voicemail greetings.

“Tecnomen’s eZONER was chosen for its vast array of value-added features which will enable us to increase revenues from messaging services by offering more services to more customers whilst promoting customer loyalty and increasing messaging usage’, said Khaled Al-Hajeri, deputy director general of telecommunications at Mobile Telecommunications Company.

“Through a long-standing relationship, Tecnomen has become a trusted partner with a proven track record, with whom we have successfully developed appealing messaging services for the needs of subscribers today and into the future,” he added.

Tecnomen has a strong position in Kuwait’s messaging market. MTC is the first and largest of two mobile and paging service providers in Kuwait with more than 600,000 active subscribers. Kuwait has a population of more than 2.3 million with a mobile penetration rate of 60 per cent. It has a developed mobile network, with two mobile operators serving more than one million subscribers.

“Tecnomen supplied MTC’s first messaging system in 1996. Long-term customers like MTC are very important to us. Our stable co-operation has continued for several years, following the development of the latest messaging technology. This deal also strengthens Tecnomen’s position in the Middle Eastern market as the leading supplier of messaging systems,” said Matti Kakko, Tecnomen’s director for Middle East Africa.
