Babel Technologies has announced that Klett Sprachen, the multinational language publisher, is to use Babels Babear v2.5 speaker-independent Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) system in it PONS product line. PONS is Kletts self study brand and includes dictionaries and bilingual language learning products in English, German, Spanish, Italian and French. Babels ASR engine will allow users of the new system to perform pronunciation exercises, there-by helping them to improve their ability to understand and speak foreign languages.
PONS has had an established presence in the language-learning sector since 1978. With 350 titles in 20 languages, PONS has an array of dictionaries ranging from self-instruction methods and to software for schools, offices, work and travel. In addition to the dictionaries, PONS also offers a selection of business software, self-learning packages and e-dictionaries.
This latest implementation of a Babel technology shows the scope and opportunity that ASR technology can offer across a wide range applications. Babear is a speech recognition software product designed for the embedded market and it has been engineered to minimise the time-to-market effort to develop new applications.
