Nokia has signed an agreement to supply Sunrise’s WCDMA 3G core network in Switzerland. Deliveries have already commenced with Nokia providing the 3G core network equipment for the smooth roll-out and introduction of Sunrise’s nationwide WCDMA network. The network is expected to be commercially launched by the end of 2004.

The Nokia WCDMA 3G core solution will enable Sunrise customers to enjoy advanced multimedia mobile services, such as multimedia messaging and live video streaming.

In addition to network equipment, Nokia provides support in project management, implementation and integration for efficient network ramp-up, as well as a wide range of care services, including training, software maintenance and emergency services, to help maintain the competitiveness of the network. The equipment will be integrated into existing Nokia NetAct operations support system for combined 2G/3G network and mobile service management.

“We are happy to work with Nokia. We are sure that Nokia’s 3G solution will provide technologically superior service and will meet our needs for cost-efficient and effective roll-out to deliver 3G services to our customers. Sunrise is recognized as an innovator in the Swiss market and has committed to provide its customers exciting and user friendly 3G services of high quality standards. Nokia has demonstrated their support towards this goal,” says Bo Chamberlain, CTO, Executive Director Network, Sunrise.
