The Finnish unified messaging solutions provider Tecnomen has been selected by Siemens Mobile Switzerland to deliver a Voice Mail System (VMS) to the Swiss national railway company, Schweizerische Bundesbahn (SBB), for its GSM-Railway (GSM-R) mobile network. The VMS will be delivered to SBB in September 2003 and will support 15,000 SBB employees. This deployment will include the full range of voice mail and fax mail services.

“This contract further strengthens Tecnomen’s position in the Swiss market as a leading supplier of messaging systems,” said Kai Honetschläger, managing director, Tecnomen. “The deal is a result of our excellent relationship and long-standing co-operation with Siemens Switzerland and will serve as a reference for forthcoming GSM-R deployments.”

GSM-R is a GSM based communications platform and is currently being adopted as the new European standard for railway communications. GSM-R integrates voice applications for train communication into a single system, which up till now has been based on different analogue and digital systems. This allows for a single international communication standard for train communication and also offers the possibility of data exchange between different train control systems.

“Tecnomen’s Voice Mail System will enable SBB’s staff to benefit from voice mail services when using their GSM-R mobile network,” said Martin Wehrli, Global Project Manager GSM-R, Siemens Switzerland. “Tecnomen has established itself as a trusted and reputable supplier in mobile messaging in Switzerland, and we are confident
that Tecnomen is the right partner for mobile messaging solutions.”
